Manchester United take ‘appropriate steps’ following Ronaldo interview

Manchester United have said that the club have ‘initiated appropriate steps’ in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial interview.

Ronaldo conducted an interview with Piers Morgan that was released this week, which contained a number of controversial comments as he criticised the club and several senior figures.

The Portugal captain said that he felt betrayed by the Red Devils, alleging that leading figures within the club had attempted to force him out at Old Trafford. Ronaldo was also criticial of Erik ten Hag and said that he had no respect for the United manager following his treatment this season.

United are understood to have sought legal advice over Ronaldo and have released a short statement confirming that the ‘appropriate steps’ are being taken in response.

“Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview,” the statement on the club’s official website read.

“We will not be making further comment until this process reaches its conclusion.”

Ronaldo’s future has dominated the headlines this season after the forward agitated for a summer exit following the club’s failure to secure Champions League qualification.

He has featured sporadically since failing to secure a transfer and was suspended last month after refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham. His latest actions are likely to bring an end to his second spell at Old Trafford.
