Sean Dyche is expected to be named as Everton’s next manager after positive talks with the club about replacing Frank Lampard.
Dyche and Marcelo Bielsa each held talks with Everton on Thursday as the club made a decision on Lampard’s replacement and the former Burnley boss is set to take the role.
Bielsa had been viewed as the top target for Everton and flew into London to told talks with the owner Farhad Moshiri this week.
However, the Argentine – who has been without a club since leaving Leeds last February – is understood to have held reservations about the role with Everton in the Premier League’s relegation places and without a win in ten games across all competitions.
The cost of appointing Bielsa has also proven problematic, with the 67-year-old having demanded a large fee, said to be around £1 million-a-month – which he would then have been distributed to his coaching staff, who come as part of the package in a non-negotiable demand – to succeed Lampard.
According to Sky Sports, Dyche now looks set to become the club’s new manager and will bring a wealth of Premier League experience to the position. He is understood to have impressed during negotiations with the club and has support from several members of the Everton board.
Dyche is set to become the seventh permanent appointment since Moshiri took ownership of the club in February 2016. Everton’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham last weekend saw Moshiri dismiss Lampard, who had lost six of his last seven Premier League games.
Everton could bring in funds for the new manager with the sale of Anthony Gordon, who has not reported for training for three consecutive days as the winger agitates for a move to Newcastle.
