Mikel Arteta says he is delighted after Gabriel Martinelli committed his future to Arsenal with a new long-term deal.
Martinelli has put pen to paper on a new contract with the Gunners having emerged as a key figure in Arteta’s side this season.
The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in 27 appearances across all competitions for the north Londoners, who are top of the Premier League and chasing a first league title since 2003/04.
Martinelli signed for Arsenal from Ituano FC in 2019 and has since developed into one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents. He has won six caps for Brazil since his senior debut last year and represented the South Americans at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Arteta expressed his delight at Martinelli’s new deal and believes there is still ‘much more to come’ from the forward in an Arsenal shirt.
“We’re delighted Gabi has signed a new long-term contract,” Arteta told the club’s official website.
“Our supporters see his quality and energy every single time he puts on the shirt and he’s the same every day in training, with his hard work and positive values.
“Gabi is still very young, so we know there’s still much more to come from him and it’s great that we’ll be on this journey together.
“We’re now excited to continue to develop his huge talent and look forward to seeing him perform with Arsenal in the years to come.”
Arsenal also remain in negotiations over contract extensions for Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, as the Gunners look to secure the long-term futures of the club’s best young talent.
