Chelsea ‘progressing’ with Thiago Silva contract talks

Chelsea are progressing in contract talks with Thiago Silva as the club look to agree an extension with the defender.

Silva is out of contract at the end of the campaign and Chelsea are keen to tie the veteran down to a new deal.

The 38-year-old has made 19 league appearances for the west Londoners this season and Chelsea want to retain Silva’s presence in the dressing room as the club continue to rebuild under Graham Potter.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that negotiations are progressing between Chelsea and Silva’s representatives as the Blues look to reach an agreement to extend the centre-back’s contract until June 2024.

Silva shone during Chelsea’s goalless draw with Fulham on Friday evening and has provided an assured presence alongside January arrival Benoit Badiashile in recent fixtures.

The Brazil international has made 106 appearances in all competitions since signing for Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2020.
