Erik ten Hag is said to be deliberating between Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane as Manchester United look to sign a centre-forward this summer.
Ten Hag wants to add a world-class option to his forward line in the summer and Osimhen and Kane have emerged as the club’s leading transfer targets.
Osimhen has starred during a spectacular season at Napoli, who are 13 points clear at the top of Serie A and are closing in on a first Scudetto since 1990.
The Nigeria international has been in prolific form for Luciano Spalletti’s side and has 16 league goals from 16 starts this season, leading the race for the Capocannoniere award as the division’s highest goalscorer.
According to the Telegraph, figures at United believe Osimhen is a better profile for Ten Hag’s side, given his age and mobility. He has been tracked extensively this season ahead of a potential summer move, with Napoli valuing the 24-year-old in excess of €100m. Chelsea and PSG are also said to be interested in a potential deal.
Kane is an alternative option for United and would represent a shorter-term solution. However, the England captain represents less risk given his proven track record in the Premier League, having become the third player to reach 200 goals in the division last weekend.
The 29-year-old is Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer after surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ landmark on Sunday, but has failed to win major silverware since emerging from the club’s academy ranks.
Kane will have just 12 months remaining on his contract this summer and could force Spurs into a sale if he fails to sign a new deal.
Daniel Levy will demand a fee of around £100m from any Premier League rival interested in the forward. Kane has scored 17 league goals in 22 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side this season.
