Bruno Fernandes has discussed the ‘amazing’ atmosphere at Manchester United this season as the club continue to progress under Erik ten Hag.
United have won 11 of their 13 games since the season’s restart and will be aiming to consolidate their position in the Premier League’s top four against Leeds on Wednesday evening.
Ten Hag’s side also face a Carabao Cup final date with Newcastle later this month and Fernandes has opened up on his excitement at competing for silverware at a packed Wembley.
“That will be really good. I think it’s an amazing chance and opportunity for all of us to experience that,” Fernandes told the club’s official website.
“At the same time, being in the final, it’s a long time for us since we’ve had that chance to be there. It’s now focusing on the games that we have, to be fully prepared for the upcoming games and to arrive at that final at our best level.”
Fernandes hopes the experience of previous near misses can benefit United ahead of their cup final clash with Newcastle, having been a part of the side that lost the Europa League final in 2021.
United have not won silverware since the 2016/17 season under Jose Mourinho, but the midfielder believes the positive atmosphere around the current side can help end that wait.
“Obviously, it always motivates you. It puts you down in the moment that you lose but it makes you understand that you are in a good way, in a good moment to go for more,” Fernandes reflected on the Europa League final defeat.
“After that final, we didn’t have the chance to go to more, but now we have. We are in a moment where everyone is feeling really good – the atmosphere around the club, between players, club, fans, has been amazing.
“It’s been something that has been pushing us to be in the position that we are now. I think we all deserve this chance to go to Wembley. Now it’s up to us to do our job and go there and win the final.”
