Klopp reveals mixed injury news for Liverpool ahead of Merseyside Derby

Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of his Liverpool squad ahead on Monday’s Merseyside Derby with Everton.

Liverpool face their cross-town neighbours on Monday night as the Reds look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss at Wolves and a difficult run of form.

Klopp has provided an update on his squad ahead of the derby showdown and there was positive news on a number of names. Diogo Jota – who has not featured since October due to a calf issue – has returned to full training this week, while Arthur Melo and Roberto Firmino are also closing in on returns. Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate remain sidelined.

“Diogo is the closest, trains now already for two days. Another three days and then he is in contention I would say,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.

“Bobby – I don’t know, have to see how he deals with training intensity. Arthur, similar to Bobby. Virgil, I don’t think that close.”

Klopp did reveal that Liverpool have been dealt a blow after Thiago Alcantara picked up a hip problem. The Spaniard has been absent from training due to the problem.

“Thiago has some problems, I have to ask what I’m allowed to say! His hip, something like this. That’s it pretty much. He wasn’t able to train.”
