Barcelona plot Manchester City raid if club are sanctioned

Barcelona are monitoring developments at Manchester City and are planning a triple raid on the club, if the Premier League champions face sanctions for alleged financial breaches.

City have been charged with more than 100 alleged breaches of financial rules with the Premier League having last week released a statement announcing the charges, following a four-year investigation.

City have denied any wrongdoing and admitted their surprise at the Premier League’s charges, which have the potential to lead to sanctions as severe as points deductions or expulsion from the top flight.

No verdict is expected to arrive imminently, but Europe’s top clubs are keeping a close eye on the situation. Spanish publication Fichajes are reporting that Barcelona are preparing a triple raid on the Etihad outfit, should the club be found guilty.

According to the report, Barcelona would be interested in bringing Pep Guardiola back to the club as manager. Guardiola won 14 trophies – including three La Liga titles and two Champions Leagues – during his previous spell at the Camp Nou. He departed in 2012 to take a break from the game, before spells at Bayern Munich and City.

Fichajes also state that Barcelona would be keen on deals to sign Rodri and Julian Alvarez. The former is a Spain international and has developed into one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders since leaving Atletico Madrid for the Premier League. Alvarez has impressed during his first season in English football this term and played a prominent role in Argentina’s World Cup success in Qatar.
