Reece James insists Boehly’s Chelsea will be ‘one of the best teams in the world’

Chelsea right-back Reece James believes the Blues are in the process of building one of the best club sides in the world.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have dominated the headlines since they were taken over by a Todd Boehly led consortium last May, with the club splashing out over £600 million on new players.

Chelsea spent over £300 million in the recent January transfer window, which included big-name signings like Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, and the Premier League record purchase of Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandes.

Despite this massive outlay, the Blues have struggled on the pitch with Graham Potter’s side currently sitting in ninth place in the top-flight table and out of both domestic cups.

England international James is however confident that once Chelsea’s young squad begin to click they will be capable of competing for the game’s biggest prizes.

“I don’t think there’s a trophy we can’t win,” James told Sky Sports.

“When that happens? I don’t know. With the team we’re building, with the structure, with all the young players, once we play together for a longer period of time and everyone gains more experience, we’re gonna be one of the best teams in the world.”

James did though admit he finds the constant speculation that emerges during transfer windows a bit much, even if he is looking forward to playing with his new teammates.

“You know because the January period is always so busy with many games and then you’ve got transfer noise as well and it’s just all a bit too much in one month,” James continued.

”So I just don’t really listen to too much of it.”

“I quite enjoy playing with new players, you don’t really know what to expect from them.

“They all come in from different places all over the world, you know different teams, they’re all here to help at the end of the day. The quicker they’re comfortable and settled, the quicker they can help.”
