Chelsea to offer Mount to Atletico as part of Joao Felix bid

Mason Mount could be offered to Atletico Madrid as part of Chelsea’s bid to sign Joao Felix on a permanent basis, according to reports.

Joao Felix was one of a number of high-profile arrivals at Stamford Bridge last month, with Chelsea paying Atletico an €11 million loan fee to sign the Portugal international until the end of the season.

Despite being sent off on his Premier League debut, Felix has impressed in his early outings for the Blues, scoring his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with West Ham at the weekend.

Following his impressive start to life in England, it has been reported that Chelsea will look to make the 23-year-old’s move to Stamford Bridge a permanent one in the summer.

Before his move to west London, Felix extended his deal with Atletico by a further year, keeping him under contract in the Spanish capital until June 2027, meaning that any permanent deal won’t come cheap.

According to Marca, Chelsea could offer players in a bid to lower that cost, with Mason Mount one name they have mentioned.

The Blues academy graduate has found himself pushed down the pecking order in recent weeks, and started on the bench for the Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Mount could leave the club in the summer, with any sale going down as pure profit as the club look to meet FFP requirements.

However, the Marca report that Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil prefers to do a deal without the inclusion of players, with the Spanish club looking to recoup as much of their initial €127 million outlay.

A number of the Premier League’s big six are reportedly interested in signing Mount, the England international’s current deal set to expire in just over 12 months time.
