Mason Mount contract talks with Chelsea ‘paused’

Talks regarding a new Chelsea contract for Mason Mount have reportedly been ‘paused’.

Mount joined the Chelsea system at the age of six, and following successful loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County, made his breakthrough into the first team at Stamford Bridge under Frank Lampard during the 2019/20 campaign.

Since then, he has been an integral part of the Chelsea side, making 191 appearances for the club in the last three-and-a-half years.

The Blues academy graduate has, however, got just over 12 months remaining on his current deal, and according to The Athletic, has already rejected ‘several offers’ from the club since last summer.

The report says that those talks over a new deal have now been ‘paused’, with the club’s current ‘focus’ being on finishing the season strongly and looking to qualify for Europe.

The Athletic say that the current plan is to resume talks in the summer, with the intention being to ‘secure the academy graduate to fresh terms or approve a sale’.

Should they be unable to agree a deal with the 24-year-old, there would not be a shortage of potential suitors for the 36-cap England international.

Liverpool have been linked in recent weeks, but a potential cut-price deal for a proven Premier League talent would likely interest many of the division’s biggest clubs.
