RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose has insisted that Josko Gvardiol will not be leaving the club this summer.
The Croatian is one of the most highly-rated centre-backs in Europe, continuing his development at RB Leipzig after his breakthrough at Dinamo Zagreb.
The 21-year-old shone in the recent World Cup in Qatar as Croatia reached the semi-finals, and did a fine job of keeping Erling Haaland quiet during Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first-leg clash against Man City, the defender also netting the equaliser for his side with a powerful second-half header.
He was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last summer, while a whole host of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ are also reported to be keeping tabs on the impressive centre-back.
Gvardiol revealed earlier this week that it is his goal to play in the Premier League, though Leipzig coach Marco Rose has insisted that the impressive defender with remain with the club beyond the end of the season.
“Josko Gvardiol will be a RB Leipzig player next season as well,” Rose said. “I am the coach and I am asking for that. He is happy here.
“He said he wants to play in the Premier League, but he didn’t say when.”
Gvardiol has a £98 million release clause in his contract at the Red Bull Arena, though that doesn’t become active until next summer.
