Arsenal remain the masters of their own destiny in the Premier League title race after they beat Leicester City 1-0 today at the King Power Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s recent fury with Premier League officials once again came to the fore during the first-half, with the Gunners controversially denied a Leandro Trossard goal by VAR before Bukayo Saka had claims for what looked like a stonewall penalty waved away.
Just after the break Arsenal would get their matchwinner when Gabriel Martinelli latched onto a Trossard through ball down the left and the Brazilian attacker expertly slotted past Danny Ward in the Leicester goal.
The Foxes never really looked like getting back into the game, with Brendan Rodgers’ side badly missing the creativity of talisman James Maddison and the Gunners held on for a crucial victory.
Today’s win sees Arsenal move five points clear at the top of the table with Man City facing Bournemouth this evening and speaking afterwards
“I think for the amount of time we dominated the ball, possession and territory, and the amount of situations we created in the final third, we should have created much more and scored more goals,” Arteta told his post-match press conference.
”If you don’t, then you have to be exceptional in your defensive work.
”I think we conceded one shot off target only. So I think defensively the team was outstanding as well.
“So, great because it’s a really difficult place to come here and win and we’ve done it and it’s a huge win.”
