‘We’re running out of games’ – Howe discusses Newcastle’s top four ambitions

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has been discussing his side’s top-four hopes ahead of this Saturday evening’s home clash with Wolves.

The Magpies had looked to be shoo-ins for the top four for much of the season, but a struggle to score goals and a run of just one win in seven Premier League fixtures in 2023 has seen the club drop to sixth in the table.

Newcastle does though have two games in hand on fourth-place Spurs, with Antonio Conte’s side four points ahead and currently experiencing their own struggle for form.

Howe’s side faces Wolves at home and Nottingham Forest away before the upcoming international break and the English coach has admitted that his side needs to turn their form around quickly if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

“Two big games [against Wolves and Nottingham Forest] because of where they are situated,” Howe told his pre-match press conference.

“We have the international break afterwards and we want to go into that break really good.

“We want to feel good going into that. We’re also running out of games.

“They are going to go so quickly, 14 left. We need points and we are determined to end this run of games we have had in a confident way.”
