‘Good chance’ that Conte leaves Spurs this summer

Antonio Conte’s future remains uncertain and there is understood to be a ‘good chance’ that the Italian leaves Tottenham this summer.

Conte’s current contract at the club expires at the end of the campaign, though Spurs possess an option to extend that deal for a further season. Conte has remained non-committal on his future amid a challenging season on and off the pitch and The Athletic are reporting that there is a ‘good chance’ he will leave his post at the end of the campaign.

Spurs are set to hold ‘decisive’ conversations with Conte on his future next month, but the club’s hierarchy are already understood to have drawn up a list of potential replacements.

Luis Enrique, the former Spain and Barcelona boss, is believed to be a leading candidate should Conte depart, while Spurs’ shortlist also reportedly includes Oliver Glasner – who led Eintracht Frankfurt to Europa League success last season – Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorin and Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti.

Mauricio Pochettino, who has been without a club since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last summer, has also been tentatively linked with a return to north London.

None of the potential candidates have been contacted to date, but Spurs have made contingency plans in the event of Conte’s exit.

The club’s Champions League exit last week effectively confirmed another season without silverware and the 53-year-old has had to deal with illness and bereavements during a troubled time away from the pitch this season.
