Frank sets ‘very expensive’ price tag for David Raya

Thomas Frank has warned interested clubs that Brentford goalkeeper David Raya will be ‘very expensive’ this summer.

Raya will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Brentford this summer and has rejected several offers to extend his deal with the Bees.

The Spain international has shone since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League and his performances have not gone unnoticed at the division’s top clubs, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham among the sides linked with the 27-year-old.

Raya has impressed as Brentford have pushed for a place in Europe this season and Frank has warned that the goalkeeper will not be allowed to leave on the cheap despite his contract situation.

Speaking ahead of Brentford’s clash with Southampton on Wednesday evening, Frank revealed that the Bees value their number one in excess of £40m.

“I think we need to get into the Champions League and then he will reconsider (re-signing),” Frank said at his pre-match press conference.

“I love David as a keeper I think he is fantastic. But of course, I am biased as I work with him every single day. I really believe he is one of the best in the Premier League.

“Right now he is a Brentford player and been a big part of our success, so let’s see what happens in the summer.

“If someone wants to come in and buy him then he will be very expensive. For me, it would have to be £40m-plus.”
