Mikel Arteta wants to keep Kieran Tierney at Arsenal despite speculation linking the defender with a move to Newcastle.
Tierney has been linked with an exit from Arsenal after struggling for regular first-team football since the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City last summer, with the Scotland international having started just four Premier League fixtures so far this season.
Newcastle are understood to be interested in a deal for the left-back, who Caught Offside are reporting is valued at around £40m at the Emirates.
Interest from the Magpies is described as ‘genuine’, as Eddie Howe looks to improve his full-back options at St James’ Park. However, Arsenal are reluctant to lose Tierney and Arteta is keen to keep the 25-year-old in north London.
Monaco and Aston Villa have also been credited as admirers of Tierney, who has made 114 appearances for the Gunners since his arrival from Celtic in 2019.
The defender is understood to have held talks with Arsenal over his future and was encouraged to fight for his place, but could depart in search of a more prominent role. However, Tierney would want European football if he were to leave Arsenal this summer.
