Manchester City have ‘no plans’ to sell Kalvin Phillips this summer despite the midfielder’s difficult debut season with the club.
Phillips has featured for just 56 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, having struggled for fitness and favour since his £45m arrival from Leeds last summer.
The 27-year-old was included in the England squad for March’s international break despite his lack of involvement for Pep Guardiola’s side this season and featured from the start in Thursday’s 2-1 win over Italy.
He was also named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup last winter and will be keen to ensure more regular football in order to retain his place in the England set-up.
Phillips lack of football at City has led to speculation over an exit, with former club Leeds, Newcastle and West Ham among the teams linked with a potential move. However, Football Insider are reporting that City have ‘no plans’ to sell the midfielder, who is keen to make an impact at the Etihad.
Having undergone surgery on a shoulder issue in September, he was criticised by Guardiola for being ‘overweight’ following his return from the World Cup in Qatar.
Phillips could, however, be handed a more prominent role in the club’s plans next season, amid speculation over the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
Gundogan is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with Barcelona, while Silva has agitated for an exit from City in recent transfer windows and could again push for a move.
