Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal eased the mounting pressure on Mikel Arteta as Arsenal secured their first win of the season against Norwich at the Emirates.
The North London outfit began the weekend bottom of the Premier League following the worst start to a season in the Gunners’ history, but club captain Aubameyang’s scrambled second-half effort proved the only goal of the game and won the home side three points against the Canaries.
The 1-0 win proved far from convincing but provided some much-needed positives for Arsenal, with summer signing Ben White returning to the side and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale making his debut in goal.
Speaking afterwards Gunners boss Mikel Arteta admitted his side had to work hard for their win, but was delighted with how his team stuck together after a period in which everyone at the club has come in for some harsh criticism.
“We are really happy. We knew it was a really tricky game and we got what we wanted which was to win the match and to get points on the table. We had to suffer but I knew to win the game it would be like this,” Arteta told BBC Sport
.”After three defeats things get complicated. I must say it has been the best 10 or 14 days in my professional career. Not the easiest, but the best.

“We have to improve in a lot of things but today we made seven changes and already it looked different.”
