Chelsea are set to battle it out with Manchester United for the signing of Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.
Ramos is on the radar of the Premier League’s leading clubs after a prolific season in Portugal’s Primeira Liga, with the forward having scored 17 goals in just 22 league appearances.
He has 25 goals in all competitions and has laid on a further ten assists for Roger Schmidt’s side, who are ten points clear at the top of the table and have progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals. The 21-year-old also impressed at the World Cup for Portugal, where he became the first player to score a hat-trick on his first World Cup start since 2002.
Manchester United have been considering an approach for Ramos with Erik ten Hag having made the signing of a centre-forward his priority this summer, though FootbalI Insider are reporting that Chelsea will rival the Red Devils for his signature.
Ramos is viewed as an alternative to Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and it is believed that Benfica value the forward at around £70m, despite the £105m release clause in his contract.
Chelsea want to sign a centre-forward this summer after struggling for goals during the current campaign. The west Londoners have scored just 29 goals in their 29 Premier League games this season, the club’s lowest return at this stage of a season since 1924.
