‘Just really happy’ – Arsenal skipper Auba reacts as Gunners seal first win of season over Norwich

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal eased the mounting pressure on Mikel Arteta as Arsenal secured their first win of the season against Norwich at the Emirates.

Arsenal began the weekend bottom of the Premier League following the worst start to a season in the Gunners’ history, but club captain Aubameyang’s scrambled second-half effort proved the only goal of the game and secured the north Londoners three points against the Canaries.

The 1-0 win proved far from convincing but provided some much-needed positives for Arsenal, with summer signing Ben White returning to the side and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale making his debut in goal.

Aubameyang expressed his delight at securing the Gunners’ first win of the campaign, the Gabon international admitting it was important to secure a result for the club’s supporters following a tough period of results.

“I’m just really happy. The first three points of the season,” Aubameyang told BT Sport.

”It was tough weeks so we had to make sure we won this game in front of our fans. The most important thing today was to play with pride and that’s what we did.”

Aubameyang discussed Arsenal’s torrid start to the season, with Arteta’s side entering the clash against the Canaries with a record of three successive defeats, no goals scored, and nine conceded.

The 32-year-old insists the squad have been impacted by their winless run, describing their poor start to the season as ‘really hard’ and outlining the desire of the players to ensure three points this weekend.

“It was really hard. When you lose games as players we are the first to be touched inside. We had 10 days to prepare ourselves and to change things and this is what we did. Today we made sure we won this game and took three points.”
