Liverpool have made the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount a priority this summer after ‘cooling’ their interest in Jude Bellingham.
Liverpool have increased their interest in Mount as the club plan a summer rebuild in midfield, with the England international facing an uncertain future at Chelsea after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.
Mount will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer and Liverpool are keen to capitalise with a move to sign the 24-year-old.
Chelsea want to tie Mount down to a new deal, but the two parties have been unable to agree terms on an extension with the academy product keen to secure terms that reflect his importance to the side.
Mount has been named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season in each of the past two campaigns and wants a contract in line with the top earners at Stamford Bridge.
Football London are reporting that Liverpool have now made Mount a priority for the transfer window, having cooled their interest in Bellingham.
It is understood the package involved to sign Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund – expected to be in excess of £130m – is deemed too high given the club’s expected absence from Champions League football next season and the need for multiple midfield additions.
