Tottenham are set to have ‘a clear run’ at landing Luis Enrique after Chelsea did not place the Spaniard among their leading candidates to become the club’s next permanent manager.
Enrique has held talks with the Chelsea board over becoming the permanent successor to Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge, but the west Londoners are not understood to be planning further talks with the former Barcelona boss, or Sporting Lisbon head coach Ruben Amorim.
Chelsea’s stance could open the door for Spurs, who are searching for a replacement for Anrtonio Conte. The Telegraph, Spurs have made moves to contract Enrique to discuss the role, despite Daniel Levy holding reservations over the 52-year-old’s lack of Premier League experience.
Enrique has been without a position since leaving the Spain national team in December, following La Roja’s exit from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He has had previous spells in charge of Roma, Celta Vigo and Barcelona and led the latter to a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League treble during the 2014/15 season.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are planning further talks with Julian Nagelsmann and the German is the favourite to succeed Potter.
Chelsea have, however, made contact with a number of candidates which include former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.
