Chelsea’s disastrous season sunk to new lows tonight after Frank Lampard’s Blues were beaten 2-0 by Brentford at Stamford Bridge.
Brentford opened the scoring on 37 minutes through an own goal by Chelsea club captain Cesar Azpilicueta, the Spanish defender heading a corner into his own net.
Bryan Mbeumo sealed the win for Thomas Frank’s Bees on 76 minutes, the French forward bursting forward on the break to score an excellent solo goal.
It’s now five straight losses since Lampard took over as interim Chelsea manager from Graham Potter and speaking afterwards the English coach refused to blame his players, saying he was happy with their effort.

“A difficult one,” Lampard told BT Sport. ”I feel for the players a bit. In terms of the game we controlled it possession wise. Brentford are good at what they do.
”The details of the game are pretty clear, we are lacking the belief at the top end of the pitch today, because we were there a lot. So you lose the game.
“This is not a sob story but everything is going against us. That game was a clear one because even though we didn’t create big chances we were always control.
“It is a really difficult run in. Some players came in today and did alright so maybe it is time to see them a bit more. At the moment I can’t complain about the application of the squad.
