Klopp delighted at Diaz return for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight at Luis Diaz’s impressive return for Liverpool after the winger scored during the club’s 4-3 win over Tottenham.

Liverpool snatched a late win against Spurs on Sunday after a thrilling encounter at Anfield, one which saw the north Londoners fight back from three goal down to level before Diogo Jota’s late winner for Klopp’s side.

The win saw Liverpool secure a fourth consecutive league victory and climb above Spurs into fifth in the Premier League table, though Klopp admits there remains much room for improvement from his side.

“The last game really showed our situation. We are capable of doing really good stuff,” the German told his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Fulham.

“We took our foot off the gas against Tottenham. We had most of the possession but no real chances, they scored their goals. We let that happen, we were guilty of that.”

Luis Diaz made his return for Liverpool against Spurs, with the Colombian marking his first start since October with a goal at Anfield. Klopp was delighted to see the winger return from injury in impressive fashion and praised Diaz’s performance.

“It was a really nice watch. We’ve hopefully gave him enough time that everything can settle.

“He cannot play 90 minutes it was clear but as long as he was on the pitch he was strong. Very good news for us.”

Klopp discussed this week’s opponents with Fulham having enjoyed a strong return to the Premier League this season. The Cottagers have endured a yo-yo existence between the top two divisions in recent seasons, but have impressed under Marco Silva to sit in the Premier League’s top half.

“The way he (Silva) sets the team up, the players they brought in – super interesting,” Klopp said.

“We will be aware of how good they are. We have to make sure they cannot be at their best.”
