Bayer Leverkusen are ‘desperate’ to sign Granit Xhaka this summer and will renew their interest in the Arsenal midfielder.
Leverkusen made an approach to sign Xhaka last summer and remain interested in a deal to sign the Switzerland international, who has been in fine form this season during Arsenal’s challenge for the Premier League title.
The 30-year-old has featured in all but one of Arsenal’s 35 Premier League fixtures during the current campaign, but is expected to face significant competition for a place in Mikel Arteta’s team next season.
Arsenal want to make midfield additions with West Ham captain Declan Rice believed to be the club’s top transfer target, while the Daily Mirror are reporting that the Gunners retain interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.
Leverkusen will look to offer a proposal that can tempt Xhaka back to the Bundesliga, with the midfielder having spent four seasons at Borussia Monchengladbach before a £35m move to Arsenal in 2016.
Any decision on his future could rest with Xhaka, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and is valued at around £20m. He is a popular figure in north London, having battled back from a public fall out with the club’s supporters in 2019 to become a fans’ favourite at the Emirates.
