Arsenal are eyeing an ambitious move to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City this summer.
Cancelo is out on loan at Bayern Munich after a surprise exit from Manchester City during the January transfer window and is not expected to be reintegrated into the squad next season.
The Portugal international fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola and was booed by the City supporters during Bayern’s defeat to the Premier League champions in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Bayern have an option to sign Cancelo on a permanent basis for €70m this summer, but the German side are understood to view that figure as too high, despite the defender’s increased involvement under Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks.
According to 90min, Arsenal are monitoring his situation as Mikel Arteta eyes another raid on his former club. The Gunners signed Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus from City last summer and each have shone during Arsenal’s title challenge this season.
However, the progress of Arsenal under Arteta could make City reluctant to do further business with the north Londoners, who have emerged as the club’s closest challengers for the Premier League this season.
Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Cancelo, while Real Madrid are also expected to enter the market for a right-back this summer.
