Moyes admits Rice could leave West Ham this summer

David Moyes has admitted that Declan Rice could leave West Ham during the summer transfer window, but has reiterated his desire to keep the midfielder.

Rice has been linked with leaving West Ham at the end of the season after turning down the club’s proposal of a new contract at the London Stadium.

Several Premier League sides are interested in the England international, who leads the league for interceptions this season and discussed his ambition to compete in the Champions League earlier in the campaign.

Arsenal are understood to have made the 24-year-old their leading transfer target this summer, but West Ham are set to demand a fee in excess of £100m for their club captain.

Speaking ahead of West Ham’s trip to face Brentford this weekend, Moyes admitted Rice could leave the club.

“We honestly hope Dec stays, that is the biggest thing,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“We would love him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case. That is one of the scenarios.

“Our plans are to have Dec here but we are also fully aware there is a good chance that we don’t have him.”
