Mauricio Pochettino reportedly faces an ‘uphill battle’ to convince Mason Mount to commit his future to Chelsea.
Mount will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and has been linked with an exit after failing to agree terms on a new deal. Contract talks with Chelsea stalled earlier this season with Mount understood to have felt undervalued during negotiations.
The 24-year-old has been named as Chelsea’s Player of the Season in each of the past two seasons, but the Sun are reporting that incoming manager Pochettino faces a difficult task to persuade the England midfielder to remain at Stamford Bridge.
Hopes of a turnaround are described as ‘too late’, with the likelihood that the academy graduate will move on at the end of the season
Liverpool are keen on a summer deal to sign Mount, while Arsenal have monitored his situation. Chelsea will look to sell the midfielder this summer if a new deal is not agreed with the club unwilling to run the risk of losing Mount on a free transfer in 2024.
