Man United linked to Norwegian teen likened to Frenkie de Jong

Manchester United have been linked with signing Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg, following the teenager’s exciting emergence in Norway.

United are understood to have been tracking the progress of the midfielder for more than a year and could accelerate their interest in the 16-year-old after he became Rosenborg’s youngest ever goalscorer on Saturday, when he scored his first senior goal against Bodo Glimt.

Nypan made his debut for the club aged just 15 and has impressed the Red Devils’ Scandinavian scouts with his performances for Rosenborg and the national side at youth level.

His first-team breakthrough has alerted teams across Europe with leading clubs in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium all interested in signing the promising teenager.

According to The Sun, United are looking to beat rival clubs to the signature of Nypan, who has been likened to Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong for his composure in possession and press-resistant abilities in midfield.

United chased a deal to sign De Jong from Barcelona last summer but were frustrated in their attempts, as Erik ten Hag looked to reunite with the former Ajax midfielder at Old Trafford.
