Gundogan ‘ready to lift two more titles’ as Man City target treble

Ilkay Gundogan says he is ‘ready to lift two more titles’ as Premier League champions Manchester City chase a treble.

City were presented with the Premier League trophy following the club’s 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola’s side celebrating a fifth title in just six seasons.

The Citizens were confirmed as champions when nearest challengers Arsenal lost at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, having won 12 consecutive league games to overhaul the Gunners in the title race.

City remain in pursuit of more trophies, however, with FA Cup and Champions League finals to come. Gundogan hailed the club’s ‘special’ success after lifting the Premier League trophy as captain, but insisted he wants more.

“Today is special, it feels more special than previous years,” Gundogan said, as per the club’s official website.

“Because of the atmosphere in the training ground, we’re here for each other, we fight for each other in tough periods. Two more finals to go, we’re looking forward to it. My arms are ready to lift two more titles.”

City were forced to come from behind to win the title race following Arsenal’s strong start and Gundogan believes a disappointing draw at Nottingham Forest in February was the turning point in City’s season.

“Maybe something happened after the Forest game away. We were in full control and conceded after the 85th minute and lost two points.

“Maybe something changed that day. That shows how competitive the league is. The Premier League is the best league in the world. To win it three in a row, it’s unbelievable.”
