Pep Guardiola has called on Manchester City to maintain their standards across the club’s final Premier League fixtures, as the club look to maintain momentum ahead of the Champions League and FA Cup finals.
City were crowned Premier League champions last weekend and conclude their league campaign with fixtures against Brighton and Brentford.
Guardiola’s side travel to face the former on Wednesday evening and the Spaniard has discussed the mood in the City camp following their title celebrations.
The 52-year-old has urged his treble-chasing side to maintain their standards ahead of their final two league games, as the champions look to arrive in the ‘best way possible’ for their upcoming cup finals with Manchester United and Inter Milan.
“They had a party after the game against Chelsea. I don’t know how they feel tomorrow but we have to do it,” Guardiola told his pre-match press conference.
“The best way to prepare for the finals is to be ready. We set these types of standards and we have to maintain it.
“It is normal that we are going to drop because we expended a lot of energy already. The energy we spend was massive and once we lifted the trophy it’s normal you drop.
“The teams can hurt us and we have to adapt the way we play in both games to arrive to United and Inter in the best way possible.”
Guardiola provided an update on the fitness of Nathan Ake and confirmed the Dutch defender is ‘getting better’ as he looks to return in time for the club’s cup finals.
“He’s getting better. He’s at the latter stage. We have to be careful after being injured for the second time, in case we need him for United or Inter.”
