Roberto De Zerbi admits Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo likely made their final appearances for Brighton during the club’s 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Brighton ended their Premier League season with a 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on Sunday, though the Seagulls had little to play for given a sixth-place finish – the club’s highest in top-flight history – had already been confirmed.
Following the loss, De Zerbi discussed the futures of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo with the midfield duo linked with leaving the club this summer.
Mac Allister is understood to be a top target for Liverpool, while Caicedo has interested several sides and was subject of interest from Arsenal in January. Speaking at full-time, De Zerbi suggested that both players will move on and said each ‘deserve to play in another level’.
“We played with honour, with respect for our fans, our shirt and ourselves,” De Zerbi told BBC’s MOTD.
“Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo both have been incredible people, incredible players, I am really sorry for them if they will leave but they deserve to play in another level.
”We have to find other big players, it will be very difficult to find players with the same quality and levels but it is our policy. We are not a big, big, big team and we improve and sell the best players.
