Wolves join competitive chase to sign James Ward-Prowse

Wolves have joined West Ham, Newcastle and Aston Villa in the race to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton.

Ward-Prowse is a top target for several clubs after Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League and the club captain appeared to wave goodbye to the Saints’ supporters after being substituted during their draw with Liverpool on the final day.

Southampton value the 28-year-old at around £40m and The Sun are reporting that Wolves have now entered the race to sign the England midfielder.

Ward-Prowse has made 409 appearances in all competitions for Southampton since progressing from the club’s academy system and has scored 55 goals.

The midfielder has forged a reputation as one of the best set-piece takers in world football and has scored 17 free-kicks in the Premier League, just one short of David Beckham’s divisional record.

Tottenham have also been linked with Ward-Prowse, who looks set for a Premier League move in order to retain hope of making the England squad for Euro 2024 next summer.

Wolves could sign the midfielder as a replacement for Ruben Neves, who has suggested he is open to an exit this summer in search of Champions League football.
