Man Utd’s Anthony Martial rejected potential Deadline Day exit

Anthony Martial is said to have rejected a transfer deadline day exit from Manchester United, with Lyon having made an approach for the forward.

Martial’s position as a regular is under threat following the summer signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho and speculation continued to surround a potential move late in the window.

L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, reported that Lyon made a late loan approach to sign the forward, who came through the academy ranks with the club before a move to Monaco in 2013.

Lyon had been interested in reinforcing their attacking options but their approach was rejected after making contact with Martial’s representatives.

The 25-year-old was named as the Red Devils’ Player of the Season in 2019/20, but endured a disappointing campaign last term to score just four Premier League goals.

The France international faces competition from Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood for a centre-forward role in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, whilst both Sancho and Marcus Rashford add to an embarrassment of attacking riches at Old Trafford this season.
