Juan Mata considering Man Utd future ahead of January transfer window

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata is said to be considering his future at the club, ahead of the January transfer window.

The Spaniard agreed to extend his stay at the club at the end of last season after signing a new one-year deal, yet has hardly featured thus far this season with his only involvement coming in the defeat to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup last week.

That 1-0 loss saw the 33-year-old play just 62 minutes before he was one of the early casualties as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to get his side back into the game, with the former Chelsea man also yet to pay a single minute in the Premier League or Champions League.

The defeat to the Hammers has only served to further reduce his potential involvement with Solskjaer unlikely to rotate his side too heavily in the coming months, particularly considering their uneasy start to their European campaign leaving little room for error.

With game time likely to be at a premium for the long-serving playmaker, the Manchester Evening News are now reporting that he is ‘considering’ his future.

The report suggests that he is open to a move in January unless his current situation changes at the club, something which doesn’t appear likely considering the wealth of attacking talent that the Red Devils possess.

With his contract at Manchester United set to expire in the summer, he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs from abroad on January 1, or depart for a small fee in the upcoming market.

The World Cup winner is one of the most experienced members of the current United side, having joined the club back in 2014 after a successful spell at Stamford Bridge, with him since having gone on to help the club to clinch the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League.
