Rashford hoping to get green light to return to full Man Utd training

Marcus Rashford has revealed he is hoping to get the green light to return to full Manchester United training again, having missed the club’s start to the new campaign after surgery on a shoulder injury.

The Englishman is seemingly itching to get back playing again after a frustrating last few months watching on from the sidelines, having previously been a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since the Norwegian’s return to the club as manager in December 2018.

That vital role for the forward has, at times, been to his detriment, with last term, in particular, seeing him visibly deteriorate after continuing to take on a heavy workload despite persistent shoulder and ankle issues.

Solskjaer’s almost blatant refusal to rest the academy graduate has been a bone of contention among the United fanbase, with it all seemingly coming to a head in the Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, in which the 23-year-old remained on the pitch for the entire 120 minutes despite looking well out-of-sorts.

While many advised him to rest over the summer, Rashford sought to play through the pain in order to be involved for his country at Euro 2020, albeit with his eventual impact minimal as he barely featured under Gareth Southgate, notably missing his spot-kick after coming off the bench in the showpiece defeat to Italy.

By his own admission, in a heartfelt statement on social media in late July, the Red Devils star admitted that he would have perhaps missed the tournament had he known his role would have had a minor one for the Three Lions.

His involvement for his country over the summer saw a delay to his required shoulder surgery, meaning he had to have the procedure completed in pre-season, leading to his current absence from the side.

While he has been back in non-contact training in recent weeks, Rashford has now revealed that he is hopeful of a return to full training soon, should he receive positive news from a consultation with his doctor on Friday.

“Happy Monday. I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation. All being well, I will get the green to join in with contact training again.”

Reports earlier this summer had suggested that Rashford’s surgery would potentially keep him out of action until late October, though the BBC’s Simon Stone says that his recovery is ‘ahead of schedule’, and he could be set to return shortly after the resumption of Premier League football following the upcoming international break.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are perhaps in need of his swift return, having lost three of their last four games in all competitions.
