Martial named as a potential replacement for Haaland at Dortmund

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been named as a potential replacement to Erling Haaland at Borussia Dortmund.

Martial has been linked with an exit from the Red Devils after falling out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a combination of the forward’s disappointing form and the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho having limited the 25-year-old’s opportunities.

The France international scored just four league goals last season and Sport1 are reporting that Dortmund are considering giving Martial a fresh opportunity, as the Bundesliga side consider replacements for Haaland ahead of his expected departure next summer.

Haaland has attracted interest from Europe’s elite after scoring 68 goals in just 67 appearances since signing for Dortmund, with the Norwegian possessing a release clause of €75m that will become active in 2022.

Manchester United have been named as one of Haaland’s interested suitors, alongside the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Martial is now one of a number of players being considered by Dortmund and the report has suggested that United would allow the Frenchman to leave should an offer of between €50m-€55m arrive for his services – a figure that would set a new record transfer for the German side.

The report says that Dortmund ‘would not spend such a large amount’ to sign Martial, with the current trail being described as ‘cold’, though it seems as though the former Monaco man is a player of interest for the Bundesliga side.

Meanwhile, the report says that Nice duo of Kasper Dolberg and Amine Gouiri are also on the club’s radar, as is England u21 international Nordi Makuele, who currently plays his club football in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.
