Phillips to snub Man Utd interest

Kalvin Phillips is set to ‘snub’ interest from Manchester United and sign a new long-term contract at Leeds.

Phillips is set to turn down interest from Premier League rivals in favour of remaining with Leeds, with the club prepared to offer the midfielder a deal that will make him their highest-paid player.

The England international had emerged as a shock target for rivals Manchester United as the Red Devils seek additions in defensive midfield, but Phillips’ desire to remain loyal to his boyhood side will see him turn down advances from Old Trafford.

TheĀ Mirror are reporting that talks over a new deal will begin ‘imminently’ with an agreement expected to be reached between Leeds and their home-grown star.

Phillips starred during England’s run to the final of Euro 2020 to be named as the Three Lions’ Player of the Tournament and Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa expects the midfielder to leave a lasting legacy at Elland Road.

Speaking on Phillips’ future, Bielsa said: “I’m sure the day he leaves Leeds and the way that he does it, far from provoking disappointment – of course it will generate disappointment – but it’s going to solidify his link to the club, the people and the city.

“I’m sure he would only leave if it’s guaranteed that the link to the place where he was born remains intact. He will know how to do it.”
