Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Kalvin Phillips, and could have an advantage given the midfielder’s concerns over a move to Leeds’ northern rivals.
Phillips has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most in-demand players following a brilliant first season in the top flight last term, his performances earning the 25-year-old inclusion in the England squad for Euro 2020.
The midfielder impressed during the tournament as the Three Lions reached the final and the Premier League’s leading sides are now considering a summer move.
The Star are reporting that Liverpool have joined Manchester United in expressing an interest, though Leeds are desperate to retain the services of the star and will offer Phillips a contract that will make him the highest-paid player at Elland Road.
Phillips would be reluctant to leave Leeds having grown up as a supporter of the club before coming through the academy ranks, though fears that manager Marcelo Bielsa could leave at the end of the campaign could persuade the England international to move on in search of silverware.
Phillips is concerned at the impact a move to rivals Manchester United would have, however, and his preference would be a switch to Anfield should Liverpool firm up their interest with an offer.
