Tottenham ‘preparing contracts’ to appoint Antonio Conte

Tottenham are ‘preparing contracts and paperworks’ to appoint Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager, with the Italian currently in negotiations to replace Nuno Espirito Santo.

Conte and his representatives are in London to hold talks with Spurs over the vacant role, with the North London side having confirmed the sacking of Nuno after just four months in charge on Monday.

Conte has now been identified as the club’s leading candidate for the position, with Spurs hopeful of persuading the former Chelsea boss to return to the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Spurs are currently ‘preparing’ a contract for the 52-year-old and an agreement is ‘set to be signed’ that will see Conte appointed on a deal until June 2023.

Conte has been without a club since leaving Inter Milan during the summer, having walked away from the Nerazzurri just months after guiding the Italians to a drought-breaking Serie A title, amid disagreements with the hierarchy at the San Siro.

He had been on Spurs’ list of candidates to replace Jose Mourinho prior to Nuno’s summer appointment, though previous talks failed to materialise in an agreement.

Spurs have now moved again for Conte following a disappointing start to the season under Nuno, who was sacked after just 10 league games in charge with the side currently eighth in the Premier League.

Conte has recently been linked with the managers job at Manchester United following the uncertainty surrounding Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position at Old Trafford in the aftermath of their 5-0 loss to Liverpool.

However, United’s subsequent 3-0 win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Saturday saw that pressure move towards Nuno, with Spurs announcing the departure of the manager on Monday morning, having lost five of their past seven league fixtures.
