Harry Maguire ruled out of Manchester United’s clash with Wolves

Harry Maguire has been ruled out of Manchester United’s clash with Wolves this evening, leaving the Red Devils set to be short of centre-back options.

Maguire sustained an injury during the club’s 3-1 win over Burnley in midweek and will not form part of the squad against Wolves, the extent of the problem yet to be revealed but the defender will miss tonight’s fixture at Old Trafford.

The Athletic have revealed that Maguire was absent from the squad at the team hotel on Sunday, leaving Ralf Rangnick’s options stretched at centre-back with Victor Lindelof currently recovering from Covid-19.

Eric Bailly was also substituted with a hamstring injury during the win over Burnley, raising the prospect of Phil Jones returning for his first senior appearance in almost two years.

Jones is understood to have ‘impressed’ Rangnick in training, though has featured in just two U23 fixtures during the 2021/22 season so far.

Nemanja Matic could fill in as an auxiliary centre-back alongside Raphael Varane, who is expected to return to the starting side after being named amongst the substitutes in midweek.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League but can move within one point of fourth-placed Arsenal – with a game in hand on the Gunners – should they beat Wolves this evening.
