Jesse Lingard wants to push through an exit from Manchester United and will request to leave the club before this evening’s transfer deadline.
Lingard has expressed a desire to leave the Red Devils in search of regular first-team football, with the midfielder having failed to start a Premier League fixture during the current campaign.
The 29-year-old has been subject of interest from Newcastle, but the two clubs have been unable to agree on a loan fee for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.
The Athletic are reporting that Lingard spoke with interim manager Ralf Rangnick on Sunday and that the midfielder will push again for a departure before the window shuts on Monday evening.
United want a loan fee and Lingard’s wages covered in full, while they demanded a £12m fee should Newcastle avoid relegation has seen a potential deal stall, although there is said to be ‘late optimism’ with that figure said to be ‘negotiable’.
Meanwhile, the Mirror are reporting that West Ham could launch a late move for the England international, who starred – scoring nine goals in 16 league appearances – after joining the Hammers on loan last season.
United have been reluctant to allow Lingard to leave to a potential top-four rival, however, with Tottenham having also been credited with an interest.
United have already granted permission for Anthony Martial, Amad Diallo and Donny van de Beek to leave on loan, though could reassess their stance on Lingard following the arrest and suspension of Mason Greenwood this week.
