Man Utd facing ‘stiff competition’ for Ten Hag

Manchester United are facing ‘stiff competition’ from a number of clubs for Erik ten Hag, with several sides across Europe interested in the Ajax manager.

Ten Hag has held talks with the Red Devils over a potential move to the Premier League and is understood to have impressed during a formal interview last week.

United are not alone in their interest in Ten Hag, however, with the Times reporting that a number of clubs – including one based in Germany – are considering approaches for the Dutchman.

Ajax are also set to make another attempt to persuade the 52-year-old to remain for a further season, with his current contract set to expire in 2023.

Sky Sports are reporting that dialogue has taken place between United and Ajax over a potential deal for Ten Hag, including the compensation fee involved and the timing of an announcement, given Ajax are in the midst of a close title race with PSV Eindhoven at present.

Should Ten Hag be appointed, it is believed he would look to add a Dutch former United player to his backroom staff with Jaap Stam having this week insisted he would be interested in a potential role.

Ten Hag is on a four-strong shortlist to become the next permanent manager at Old Trafford, alongside Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui.

Interest in Enrique is complicated given his commitment to leading Spain at the Qatar World Cup in November, whilst Lopetegui appeared to rule himself out of the running after insisting there was ‘no doubt’ he would remain with Sevilla next season.
