‘Very good news’ – Man United manager Rangnick’s reacts to Fernandes contract extension

Ralf Rangnick has described Bruno Fernandes’ contract extension as ‘very good news’ for Manchester United after the midfielder signed a new deal at Old Trafford.

Fernandes has signed a new contract that will run until June 2026, with the Red Devils possessing an option to extend that deal into a further season.

The Portugal international has been a hugely influential figure since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon, providing 60 goals and assists in just 78 appearances in the Premier League.

Speaking ahead of United’s clash with Leicester this week, Rangnick said it was positive news that Fernandes had committed his long-term future to the club.

“I think that’s very good news for the club, for the fans, the supporters also for Bruno to know he will be here for the next five years I suppose,” said Rangnick at his pre-match press conference.

“There is no doubt he is a very important player for this club and this team. That’s great news, I already congratulated him yesterday after his return from the World Cup qualifiers. He played very well and scored the most important goals to qualify.”
