Klopp confirms Fabinho and Thiago in contention for UCL final

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Fabinho and Thiago are in contention to feature ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League final with Real Madrid.

Liverpool will meet Real Madrid at the Stade de France on Saturday evening as the Reds look to win a seventh European crown in the French capital.

Klopp won his first major trophy as Liverpool manager with the Champions League in 2018/19 and has discussed how a second success in Europe would compare to that triumph in Madrid.

“I have no idea how it will be if we win it. You will have to ask me that question after the game,” he told his pre-match press conference.

“Real Madrid are the most decorated club in the Champions League, some players can win it five times, the manager can win four times, we cannot get this experience overnight.

“We’re experienced too, third final in five years. That’s special.”

Tomorrow’s final is a rematch of the 2018 showpiece, in which Liverpool lost 3-1 to the Spanish champions in Kyiv.

Mohamed Salah has spoken publicly on his desire to avenge that loss, with the Egyptian having been substituted during the first half with a shoulder problem.

Klopp has no concerns with Salah’s motivation and says his squad are all keen to put things right and secure a third major honour of the season in Paris.

“Nobody worries about Mo that he takes (2018) too much. He got injured and now is very good shape,” Klopp added.

“We all get motivated by different things. That’s fine.

“Only thing is if [revenge] is his motivation, it’s not. We want to put things right. It was a while ago now.”

Klopp provided an update on the fitness of his squad and confirmed Fabinho and Thiago are both in contention to feature.

Fabinho missed the final two league fixtures of the season with a muscular problem, whilst Thiago was substituted during the final the final day win over Wolves at Anfield.

“Mood is very good, very excited about being here. Getting a feeling for the stadium and the location.

“It looks good for both Thiago and Fabinho. Fabinho has trained normal, Thiago trained with the team yesterday and will train today and then we’ll go from there.”
