Chelsea in ‘advanced’ talks over Sterling deal

Chelsea are in ‘advanced’ talks with Manchester City over a deal to sign Raheem Sterling.

Sterling is keen on a move to Chelsea are he looks to secure more regular first-team football, having often been overlooked for City’s defining fixtures of last season.

The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad and Chelsea are working on a deal to sign the England winger, with Sky Sports reporting that talks between the clubs are both ‘advanced and constructive’.

Chelsea are believed to be ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with the Premier League champions over the fee for Sterling and there is optimism that a deal can be reached.

City value Sterling in the region of £50m, while the player is understood to be expecting an increase on his current wages at the Etihad when negotiations begin over personal terms.

The move to Chelsea would see Sterling return to his native London, where much of his family remain based.

He has scored 131 goals in 339 appearances across his seven seasons at City, winning four Premier League titles among his major honours. City are willing to allow the winger to leave for a direct rival should their valuation be matched, given his period of excellent service at the club.
