Eriksen agrees deal to join Manchester United

Christian Eriksen has reached a ‘verbal agreement’ to join Manchester United on a free transfer.

Eriksen is a free agent after his short-term contract at Brentford expired this month and he has now agreed to sign for the Red Devils on a three-year contract.

The Athletic are reporting that the Denmark international has accepted a proposal to join the club, with the conditions of the contract needing to be finalised and a medical completed before the transfer is confirmed.

Erik ten Hag had identified Eriksen as an addition that could improve his midfield options, which have been depleted following the exits of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.

Eriksen has attracted interest from a host of leading clubs since making a remarkable return to football, starring during Brentford’s strong end-of-season form to help the Bees to Premier League safety.

Thomas Frank’s side won seven of their final 11 games to survive with ease, with Eriksen having been at the heart of their impressive turnaround.

Eriksen previously spent six-and-a-half seasons at Tottenham, making 305 appearances in all competitions before leaving for Inter Milan in January 2020. The 30-year-old is one of just two players, alongside David Beckham, to have provided 10+ assists in four consecutive Premier League campaigns.
