Cristiano Ronaldo’s impending return for talks with Manchester United over his future is being viewed as a ‘positive sign’ by the club.
Ronaldo did not travel with the club for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia this summer, with the unsettled forward having been granted extended leave due to ‘family reasons’.
The 37-year-old has informed the Red Devils of his desire to leave the club, following their failure to secure a top four finish and Champions League qualification last season.
United have insisted that Ronaldo is not for sale with Erik ten Hag having insisted that the Portugal captain remains a part of his plans for the coming campaign.
The Athletic are reporting that Ronaldo is set to return to Manchester to hold talks with the club, a situation which is being viewed as a ‘positive’ among those at Old Trafford.
There is also understood to be a feeling among those at the club that it is ‘increasingly likely’ Ronaldo will remain given a lack of credible suitors.
However, Spanish outlet AS say that despite his return to training, Ronaldo – who scored 24 goals in all competitions last season – will inform the club of his intention to leave, with the striker having been joined in Manchester by his agent, Jorge Mendes.
Ronaldo is said to be keen on a move to Atletico Madrid, though Los Rojiblancos will need to offload players before making a potential move for Real Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich have distanced themselves from a move for the veteran, with it seeming like there are very few viable destinations for the forward.
