Arsenal reach agreement in principle over Leno transfer

Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Fulham over the transfer of goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Leno lost his place as Arsenal’s number one last season following the arrival of Aaron Ramsdale and had been keen to leave the north Londoners in search of regular first-team football.

Fulham are now closing in on the signing of the Germany international with Sky Sports reporting that the newly-promoted Cottagers have agreed a fee with their capital rivals.

The fee is believed to be in the region of £8m for Leno, with the two clubs finalising the agreement before the goalkeeper can undergo a medical.

Leno signed for Arsenal in a £22.5m deal from Bayer Leverkusen in 2018 and has since made 125 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The 30-year-old – who has earned nine caps for Germany at international level – will become Marco Silva’s fifth major signing of the summer at Fulham.

The west Londoners have already completed deals for midfield duo João Palhinha and Andreas Pereira, alongside the confirmed captures of Wolfsburg right-back Kevin Mbabu and Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon.
